Other Crimes Against Women
About Course
The world today shows us how women are not safe, neither in public, in their space of work nor in their own homes. Crimes against women encompass a range of offenses, from physical violence and sexual assault to emotional abuse and harassment. Gender-based violence persists globally, with issues like domestic violence and abuse disproportionately affecting women at home. Cyber crimes, including online harassment and fraud victimize women further, where through various online dating applications and services, scammers target women, use their charm and social skills to make people trust them, and once that trust is gained they take advantage and commit fraud, causing emotional and financial loss for their victims.
Women have the constant worry of being observed, followed, or harassed in public spaces, which induces anxiety, restricts freedom, and impacts daily activities. Stalking of women is a serious issue and involves persistent, unwanted attention, both online and offline. Perpetrators may surveil victims, track their movements, and use technology to intrude into their personal lives. Stalking induces fear, anxiety, and emotional distress, impacting victims’ well-being and daily activities.
At work, women encounter harassment, discrimination, and unequal opportunities, fostering an unsafe environment. The #MeToo movement that grew to prominence in 2017, has shed light on pervasive workplace sexual harassment and sexual abuse. The intersection of these issues exacerbates the overall vulnerability of women, impacting their physical and mental well-being. Despite legal advancements and increased awareness, many cases go unreported due to fear, societal pressure, or inadequate support systems.
