About Course

The world today shows us how women are not safe, neither in public, in their space of work nor in their own homes. Crimes against women encompass a range of offenses, from physical violence and sexual assault to emotional abuse and harassment. Gender-based violence persists globally, with issues like domestic violence and abuse disproportionately affecting women at home. Cyber crimes, including online harassment and fraud victimize women further, where through various online dating applications and services, scammers target women, use their charm and social skills to make people trust them, and once that trust is gained they take advantage and commit fraud, causing emotional and financial loss for their victims.

Women have the constant worry of being observed, followed, or harassed in public spaces, which induces anxiety, restricts freedom, and impacts daily activities. Stalking of women is a serious issue and involves persistent, unwanted attention, both online and offline. Perpetrators may surveil victims, track their movements, and use technology to intrude into their personal lives. Stalking induces fear, anxiety, and emotional distress, impacting victims’ well-being and daily activities.

At work, women encounter harassment, discrimination, and unequal opportunities, fostering an unsafe environment. The #MeToo movement that grew to prominence in 2017, has shed light on pervasive workplace sexual harassment and sexual abuse. The intersection of these issues exacerbates the overall vulnerability of women, impacting their physical and mental well-being. Despite legal advancements and increased awareness, many cases go unreported due to fear, societal pressure, or inadequate support systems.

Online Dating Scams
Millions of people around the world use online dating sites and apps. And there are many success stories of people finding love and companionship online. But as well as the successes, there are also online dating scams – and these are on the rise. Online dating scams – also known as romance scams or romance fraud – take place when someone believes they have made a connection or match through an online dating site or app – but the person they are talking to is, in fact, a scammer using a fake profile. The scammer manipulates or grooms the other person to gain their trust over time – ultimately so they can either ask them for money or obtain enough personal information about them to steal their identity.

The Various forms of Stalking
Stalking is a pervasive and distressing behavior where an individual persistently intrudes on another person's life, causing fear and distress. It can manifest through constant surveillance, unwanted communication, or physical presence. Stalkers often use technology to monitor victims, exploiting personal information. The psychological toll on victims includes anxiety, depression, and a sense of helplessness. Stalking disrupts daily life, impeding personal relationships and work. Legal recourse varies, making it challenging to address. Combating stalking requires a multidisciplinary approach involving law enforcement, support services, and public awareness to protect victims and address the psychological and emotional trauma inflicted by this invasive behavior.

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
Workplace sexual harassment is a reprehensible act involving unwanted advances, comments, or conduct of a sexual nature that create a hostile environment. Perpetrators may abuse power dynamics, affecting victims emotionally and professionally. The impact includes anxiety, depression, and a decline in work performance. Fear of retaliation often silences victims, hindering their ability to report incidents. Effective prevention involves comprehensive policies, training, and a culture of accountability. Addressing workplace sexual harassment is crucial for fostering a safe and respectful environment, promoting equality, and empowering victims to speak out without fear of reprisal.
